The Huchuy Qosqo Trek offers a panorama of incredible landscapes due to its vegetation and climate change as we advance from the Cusco Valley towards the Puna (4250 m). Huchuy Qosqo and Qoricocha have a grand diversity of birds in the Andes region, which makes it conducive to the sighting of these beautiful species in their natural habitat.
Huchuy Qosqo is a hidden fortress on the way to Urubamba. Despite being one of the most important archaeological sites in Cusco, and is located in a magnificent; is little known and visited. From the top, the view of the entire complex is unique. The citadel appears on an esplanade, right on the edge of a precipice from where you get the best images of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota River, and the Urubamba Mountain range.
The meaning in Quechua of Huchuy Qosqo is small Cusco and was a fortress of dominion and surveillance over the Sacred Valley and a place of refuge for the Inca during the wars with the Chanca people. It’s a soft hike, ideal to start on the Inca Trail and discover a hidden archaeological site that leaves unnoticed by most tourism agencies.
