The Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek in 3 days is a much shorter version of the classic 5-day trek around the area of the main Apu of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary (Salkantay), at the zone where there is a wide crossroads of Inca trails that connect Cusco with the city of Machu Picchu and Vilcabamba.
Who contemplate the possibility of doing this wonderful trek in the region and do not have so much time or those who prefer to have the chance of doing more than one trek during your stay in Cusco, this is your best option to know the snowy Salkantay!
Salkantay, Apu sacred mountain with 6,271 m. high is the most important mountain in the Vilcabamba range and one of the highest and most majestic mountains in the Cusco region, located south of Machu Picchu. Its name probably comes from the Quechua word “salcca” (salqa), which means “wild”; being the object of great veneration since time immemorial with Machu Picchu and Choquequirao is considered in the Andean world “sacred icon” deity of the territory and source of water for life.
We recommend that you do at least a 1-day hike at altitude to acclimatize before doing this trek. If you already have previous experience, it is not necessary.

04:00 am – Pick up at home to go to the community of Soraypampa.
08:00 am – Arrival at Soraypampa.
ARRIVAL – DAY 2
11:30 am – Hidroeléctrica Santa Teresa.
04:00 pm – Aguas Calientes.
VISIT MACHU PICCHU – DAY 3

04:00 am. Pick up at home with private transportation.
08:00 am. Arrival at Soraypampa.
08:30 am. Breakfast break upon arrival to Soraypampa.
09:00 am. Beginning of the tour to Salkantay pass (4630 m).
Noon. Reach the Salkantay pass. We begin to descend until we reach the community of Huayracmachay.
02:00 pm. Arrival at Huayracmachay. Break for lunch, rest a few minutes and continue with the hike.
03:00 pm. We begin to descend until we reach the community of Challuay, where we will see the change of landscapes from a high mountain to the jungle in a couple of hours.
05:00 pm. Reach the community of Challuay.
05:30 pm. Free time to appreciate the scenery, relax and share the day’s experience.
07:00 pm. Dinner.
07:00 am. Breakfast.
08:30 am. We start our day with the direction to Sawayaco Beach, approximately 1 hour by car.
09:30 am. Arrival at Playa Sawayaco and break with a tasting of local coffee harvested in the area (optional).
10:00 am. Change of transportation to go to Hidroeléctrica.
11:30 am. Arrival at Hidroeléctrica and lunch break.
01:00 pm. We head to Aguas Calientes through a beautiful walk along the rails of the tourist train.
04:00 pm. Reach our destination: Aguas Calientes; and end of the trekking. We go to the hostel to do our entrance check-in.
04:30 pm. Time to rest, visit the tourist town of Machu Picchu, and enjoy the hot springs in Aguas Calientes (optional).
Last day: is destined to visit the citadel of Machu Picchu, according to the schedule and selected circuit.
